This is the Truth Sent from Above
This is a traditional English carol, which was included in Cecil Sharp's collection of tunes published in his Enlighs Folk-Carols from 1911. This carol would most probably have been sung over a one or two note drone. I re-arranged it for fiddles and cello, evoking the sound of the nyckelharpa, the traditional fiddle of Sweden; there is something about this tune that sounds Nordic to me.
Thus he in love to us behaved,
To show us how we must be saved;
And if you want to know the way,
Be pleased to hear what he did say.
God grant to all within this place
True saving faith, that special grace
Which to his people doth belong:
And thus I close my Christmas song."
